Artist House idea
AiR is KreativKultur´s Artist in Residency programme for Contemporary Circus Arts.
The concept of artistic residencies has proven to be an important part of the international art funding, enabling artists and artistic companies to focus on their experimentation, research and creation processes at a low expense. The internationally woben network of artistic residencies therefore is an important part of the creation of artistic works across countries and disciplines and furthers artistic mobility. KreativKultur therefore aims to create an artistic space, which promotes the collaboration between artists of different disciplines, backgrounds and visions and furthermore supports chosen artists in their creation process.
In 2013 KreativKultur starts off a pilot project in aspern Die Seestadt Wiensin Vienna accompanying serveral circus related research and creation projects.
The artists are granted exclusive use of training facilities and in some cases administrational help and artistic mentoring. By the mean of research laboratories and public feedback showings networking between the international guest artists and the local performing art scene will be facilitated.
The pilot project offers KreativKultur the opportunity to gain more knowledge about the needs of artists in residency and the dynamics of creation processes. In order to prepare for the creation of an institutionalized residency and creation center in the near future.
One general interest of KreativKultur is with regard to gender equality: For us it is important to, from beginning on, integrate a certain gender awareness into our programming as we are aware of our responsibility as being one of the pioneering Austrian Organizations in the field of contemporary circus.

KreativKultur plans the realisation of the first Austrian Residency and Creation Center for Contemporary Circus in Vienna. We are therefore currently looking for financial and artistical partners as well as long term facilities that can house our ongoing residency programme as well as the association´s other activities such as trainings (circus, dance, theatre), exhibitions, concerts, workshops, festivals, contemporary performances, etc.
Possible premises could be the following:
- - former schools or kindergardens with gym or auditorium
- - former theatre or movie halls
- - industrial buildings like former factories, production halls, train stations
- - former emergency or firefighter garages
- - any other eventlocation with a minimum of 5 metres height. Ideally 7 - 12 metres.
At the moment, we are looking for like-minded collaboration partners, dedicated artists as well as sponsors and financiers. The project is planned to be implemented within the next 3 years. Up until then, there will be regular public networking and discussion meetings.
We are also open for temporary solutions and shared use of training facilities.
