2012 | Vienna

In the first week of July 2012 KreativKultur is organizing an international performing art festival in Vienna: SummerFlame – festival of fire and moving art.

The festival playfully combines the fascinating arts of fire juggling with other performing arts such as dance, acrobatics, theatre, object manipulation, music and transmedial performance art.

The interdisciplinary festival hosts known local and international artists as well as newcomers.

During one week participants from all over Europe will be offered a vast program of workshops. Furthermore there will be contemporary performances in the different disciplines during the evenings, most of which will be accessible publicly. On some nights the festival offers musical events as well.

These kinds of festivals are very important for the artist scene, they offer artists from different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds the oppertunity to collaborate an constructively exchange techniques, methods, artistic ideas and visions. Furthermore they help networking within the professional field.

In teaching circus arts to beginners and presenting contemporary circus acts a broad audiance the festival aims to was den Fortbestand der Szene und die Anerkennung der zirzensischen Disziplinen als zeitgenössische Kunstform vorantreiben soll.

The festival is a non profit event which is organized on a voluntary basis. The organization team, consisting of Viennese artists, is expecting a minimum of 250 constant participants (amateur artists and professionals) for 2012.

It will be possible for the interested local public to purchase days or evening tickets and to participate in selected workshops and performances.

On a different level we want to use the festival to make a statement against rasism and discrimination. Circus arts, especially in the context of intercultural exchange, therefore seem to be an ideal tool to playfully blur the lines which are often drawn between etnics, genders, age, esthetics, and social status.

As it is very important to us to offer easy access to our artistic projects, we try to offer affordable ticket prices. This year for the first time we have the opportunity to collaborate with deaf associations (i.e. Equalizent). by offering sign language interpretations during the workshops as well as the performances we hope to make the festival and its program more attractive to deaf artists and audiences.

The project SummerFlame takes around one year of preparation time and an estimated budget of around 20.000€, therefore the Association KreativKultur depends on sponsors, subsidies, donations and other contributions.

2011 | Novi Sad

ban

The currently biggest project which KreativKultur is organizing is calles SummerFlame - Festival of fire and moving arts and will take place from 1. to 4. July 2011 in Novi Sad, Serbia.

SummerFlame is the first circus convention in Serbia. The festival consists of workshops und performances, that will be held by local and international teachers and artist. There will be between 100 and 200 participants aswell from the Balkan regions as from Central and Western Europe.

The local community will be actively involved in the event; there will be two big public shows and part of the workshops will be open to the public free of charge.

The convention will be a 'cross-over convention', as it combines circus arts with moving arts and music, thereby enabling interdisciplinary exchange within the field of performing arts. This trend can be observed since some time in the field of neo-circus and meets the needs of the new artist generation. The festival offers high quality workshops in the disciplines of (Fire)Juggling and object manipulation, akrobatics, Capoeira, Ninjutsu, Breakdance, Parkour and Didgeridoo aswell as local live music in the evenings.

The project aims to promote the performing arts. Especially in Serbia where there doesn´t exist a well developed circus/ performing arts scene KreativKultur hopes for an increasement of interest for this form of art.

Furthermore the project aims to establish a national circus scene and to intensify the artistic exchange as well within the Balkan region as on an international level.

The project enables affordable access to skills and knowledge, especially for artists of the Balkan region that might not be able to participatein Western European conventions or workshops with international teachers out of financial reasons.

By the of intercultural, artistic exchange the festival wants to make an statement against rassism, sexism and discrimination. Cultural activities in general and especially circus arts can be seen as an ideal tool to playfully break through the borders that are so often drawn between nationality, age, gender, ethics, esthetics, disciplines and social status.

SummerFlame is a non profit project and is being organized in collaboration with the Serbian partner Ustanova Studentski Kulturni Centar Novi Sad organisiert.

The project is planned for a budget of 20.000 € and financed by subsidies sponsoring and donations.
